Lately, black owned businesses have been getting a lot of support, which is awesome! It is finally time for some of the best black owned businesses to get their flowers. While a lot of us are discussing our favorite brands, I haven’t been able to find a list of anyone’s favorite black owned natural hair brands that focuses on the use of clean and all-natural ingredients.
I wanted to make a list of my favorite natural hair brands that use clean ingredients because clean products are important to me. Is everything that I use 100% all-natural?
No…
But, I always opt for something more natural when the option presents itself. For me, it’s very important what I put into and onto my body, and what is put into and on this earth. So when I find a clean, natural hair brand that actually works I’m all over it!
And I love to share… so without further ado
My Top 5 Clean Natural Hair Brands that I Love!
Qhemet Biologics is a brand that prides itself on providing “clean, plant based hair care” (source). It was founded by Felis Butler who is a woman with 4c hair (source). I’ve been using Qhemet Biologics for quite some time now and I absolutely love it. Their ingredients list is exactly what my hair needs.
Now, I’ll admit that I’ve never used any of the brands shampoos or deep conditioners. But that is because I don’t tend to buy many shampoos (1 bottle lasts me a year) and I just always keep such an arsenal of deep conditioners that whenever I order from Qhemet Biologics, I really don’t need any. I have purchased (and repurchased!) their styling products and leave in conditioners and my hair always feels like a dream. Qhemet Biologics is definitely on my forever list.
Briogeo is actually a product line that I didn’t find out was black owned until recently (within the last 6 months). Briogeo was founded by Nancy Twine in 2016 (source). Briogeo has received many accolades, especially for their Don’t Despair, Repair! line, and I can concur that it is amazing.
Briogeo is definitely a brand that is a little on the high end, but for me it has been absolutely worth every penny. I have only used the Don’t Despair, Repair line (as much as I am tempted to use the others!) but that’s because the Don’t Despair, Repair line work just that good on my hair that I just keep repurchasing it. But trust, I will be trying out the others as well.
Kinky Curly has been all the rage in the natural hair community for years! It was founded by Shelley Davis and has an ingredient list that is exactly what you want to see if you are someone who prefers all natural, clean products. Kinky Curly uses natural ingredients to nourish, strengthen, and moisturize your hair (source). It also formulates all of its natural hair care products without silicones, petroleum, mineral oil, alcohol, wax, carbonimer, parabens, acrylics, or plastics… score!
I’ve only recently tried them out (I know, I know I’m super late) and I am hooked! For some, Kinky Curly products are a bit more expensive than what we would would normal pay for certain natural hair products. However, the price point of Kinky Curly products is worth it for the quality of products that you receive.
tgin, Thank God it’s Natural, is a natural hair brand that was founded by Christ-Tia Donaldson (source). tgin products are crafted using natural and organic ingredients and never using parabens, pthalates, or testing on animals (source).
tgin is a brand that I’ve started using regularly in the last 6 months and I love it. I’ve also used it on my daughter’s and my son’s hair (all three of us have different hair types and textures) and it works wonders for us all.
Uncle Funky’s Daughter is owned by Renee Morris, who acquired the brand in 2014 (source). Uncle Funky’s Daughter natural hair product puts an emphasis on using natural ingredients and not using mineral oil, parabens, synthetic dyes, sulfates or pthalates (source).
Now, I’ve already written a whole post about how obsessed I am with Uncle Funky’s Daughter products, so I won’t fan girl again. But I will say that these product are BOMB and I can’t wait to try more of their products.
Conclusion
These are my top 5 clean, all-natural natural hair brands, but there are absolutely others out there that are amazing!
