Let’s face it, we all want long, lush, healthy hair. Even I, someone that isn’t necessarily on a quest for tailbone length hair, would sign up for a couple more inches. While length retention is the ultimate key to growing long hair (because your hair is technically always going unless you have an underlying condition), scalp health also plays a role in hair growth.

Stimulating blood flow to the scalp is known to increase hair growth rate. While longer hair is great, sometimes I just want to feel something nice and tingly on my scalp. Whether my scalp is itchy, parched, or just in need of some TLC. When I get that feelin’ (in my Marvin Gaye voice) I like to reach for my DIY invigorating scalp oil to give me ALL the feels:

Invigorating Scalp Oil Recipe

2oz of Olive oil – rich in antioxidants, and vitamins A and E (source)
1oz of Grapeseed oil – rich in antioxidants, vitamin E, and Lineolic acid for strengthening and promoting growth (source)
1oz of Castor oil – rich in antioxidants and ricinoleic acid, stimulates growth (source)
1oz of Coconut oil* – medium-chain fatty acids and lauric acid which strengthens and promotes growth (source)
20-30 drops Peppermint Essential oil -High in minerals and vitamins. It also contains menthol, menthone and methyl esters which cool and stimulate to increases blood circulation (source). Please not that this is an essential oil, and that applying too much or to broken skin can cause burns. Please use discretion and discernment and add as much (or as little) as you need to. You may want to start with only a few drops, and work your way up.

*If your hair does not like coconut oil, I have substituted sweet almond oil and gotten great results.

When you purchase oils, you always want to make sure that they are cold pressed, extra virgin, and organic if that is possible. I like to apply this oil a few times a week (unless I’m using my ayruvedic oil). I use it to lubricate my scalp, as a hot scalp oil treatment, and when I really want something special I apply it right after I wash and deep condition. Tingles for days…

Do you have a scalp recipe that you’d like to share?

Shalom, salam, paz, PEACE!
